Grant Petersen book signing on Friday, June 1, 5-6pm

Grant Petersen of Rivendell Bicycle Works will be here on Friday, June 1, to give a short presentation and sign copies of his new book, JUST RIDE. 5-6pm is the time slot.

Stop by for the gathering, purchase a couple of copies (they make great gifts), and learn how to spell “derailer”.

All are welcome to join in a casual ride afterwards, with extra credit given for riders on steel and double-extra for lugs!

Rivendell’s Grant Petersen “in-house” in West Newton

We’ve just received a shipment of Grant’s new book JUST RIDE: A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike. It’s written in Grant’s inimitable style and is chock full of sensible advice and observations for the “un-racer”. (That would certainly be me and most of those I know and/or ride with!)

BikeSnobNYC says Grant, “Questions, debunks, and unravels decades of misinformation. No matter what or how you ride, read this nook and remind yourself just how enjoyable cycling can and should be.”

And we are excited to announce that Grant will be here at Harris on Friday, June 1, for a book signing. It is scheduled for 5:00-6:00pm.

We’re planning on a casual “everybody’s welcome” ride following the gathering in the store. More details will be announced here on the blog as they develop. Save the date!

We have just finished lacing up our first wheel with the Supernova Infinity S dynamo hub and can hardly wait until dark to try in on the way home. The hub weighs a mere 399 grams and is rim brake or Shimano Center Lock disc compatible. It boasts a higher output than a Schmidt eDelux, our other premium light weight dynamo hub offering, so you’ll have brighter light sooner. All current LED Dynamo lights by B&M, Schmidt, and Supernova are compatible, so mix and match as you wish!

These are Shimano’s best 9-speed cassettes. The top three cogs are titanium on an alloy carrier and they are 179g light on our shop scale. The cogs are 12/13/14/15/17/19/21/24/27 (our most popular 9-speed combination).

Not Your Mother’s Amfibs

If you’re a serious winter rider, or want to be, or know someone who wants to be, then you need to sit down and pay attention to this. There’s a piece of clothing you should know about: the new Amfib winter cycling tight by Pearl Izumi.

The Amfib tight has been the go-to softshell tight for keeping legs warm in single digits for years, but it wasn’t a perfect tight – it was binding around the knees and wouldn’t stay up.

The new Amfib tight is totally revamped, and it’s amazing! The improved tight offers more freedom of movement through the knees, greater water resistance, loads more breathability, and increased reflectivity for night riding! It also sits up higher in the rear. Fear sub-freezing temps no more!

Sadly, however, the new improved tight is only available in men’s sizing. Pearl gives the gals the old version, but the men’s sizing should fit many women.
